joytiMy body didn’t work as a child. As a result of growing up in a harsh environment, my speech was stuttered, I was in and out of hospitals; I constantly vomited; was very weak and could not digest food without medication until I was12. Jumping, running and normal kid activities were foreign to me. I struggled with my body throughout adulthood and in 2007, I decided to try to learn what it means to be okay. It made sense for me to start from within, as I needed every cell of my body to be healthy, because my normal state was not to be.
Our bodies are biologically meant to thrive--not to fail. But, our bodies will always fail if we keep doing what we’re not supposed to do (as I was to learn the hard way).  By understanding proper health and optimizing what’s going on inside my body since 2008, my outside has responded rapidly. Throughout the last year, I have been mistaken for a fitness model or competitor by professional photographers and industry insiders and, more importantly, I have not even had a cold once whereas I used to take antibiotics up to 4 times a year!

At 30 years old, I am finally healthy and strong! Many have asked how I accomplished this since I don’t run, I can’t swim, I’ve never played sports nor am I bendy enough for yoga or pilates: Back to Basics is my answer.

From our individual genetics to our common universal history of movement, we deserve to know what our ancestors knew centuries ago and what our most elite athletes practice today. Applying this knowledge to our everyday life to sustain our bodies as we age is much more simple than we think. When I shared some of my childhood struggles with Ori Hofmekler, he commented, “it’s a miracle you survived”.  Because of this blessing, it is my privilege to contribute 100% of the proceeds of this workshop to The BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, part of the International Children’s Miracle Network. No child (or adult) should hurt; our bodies are designed to thrive. My sincere gratitude in advance for your consideration in helping support the spirit of health through this workshop.
